Learn about Sarah’s revolutionary performance projects.

Hailed as “Bold … edgy … totally engaging!”, violinist Sarah Whitney will redefine the musical limits of the violin in her solo show, Violin for One. By using a loop pedal and electronics, Sarah pushes the boundaries of the violin to create full soundscapes that sound like a full band and even an orchestra. Sarah’s shows are designed to surprise and delight audiences by presenting reimagined classical gems of the past such as Bach & Mozart, captivating tangos from Argentina and standards you'll be singing along to!

Beyond the Notes, a concept Sarah brought to life 9 years ago, is a unique and interactive concert experience that changes the perceptions of traditional classical concerts and deepens the connection between the audience and performer. The series is rooted in the Boston-area but has expanded in recent years to present performances throughout North America. In addition to presenting some of today’s most sought-after musicians, Beyond the Notes invites audience members to participate in the concert by submitting written questions. Questions are selected randomly and answered live on stage by the performers throughout the concert.

Ensemble Projects:

The mission of Aurea is to investigate and invigorate the relationship between music and the spoken word. Aurea aspires to unify the humanities and fine arts in dynamic, accessible & engaging ways through performance and educational outreach. Aurea’s concerts combine poetry with classical, folk and contemporary music, to create performances that sweep from intimate chamber settings to major theatrical venues.

Aurea members are equally inspired by each other’s artistry and seek to create a new genre of performance, melding words and music, thematically, in a highly collaborative spirit.
